Tuks Landbou spent the 1st and 2nd of February at the Fire & Wine Arena, where our members had the opportunity to gain practical experience regarding goats and sheep.
The first day we were taught how to retrieve semen from rams and to see what the quality of the semen is. Furthermore, a veterinarian was observed performing pregnancy tests and examining the entire herd for foot-and-mouth disease.
On the second day, attendees helped herd sheep and goats and determined which animals were stud quality and which could only be used as commercial animals.
We would like to thank Pieter Smith, a highly regarded goat farmer, who invited Tuks Landbou to this event. He also gave each attendee a free, online boer goat course to further promote themselves in the goat industry!
